Are SEAT cars the same as VW?
Volkswagen, SEAT and Skoda are all closely related brands. They’re all popular ones too – while most of the cars sold out of the three are VWs, SEAT and Skoda make up just under a third of the total sales in the UK, despite Volkswagen offering more models. Is SEAT made by Audi?
SEAT – Volkswagen expanded outside Germany with a co-operation agreement between Audi AG and the Spanish car manufacturer SEAT in 1982. The Volkswagen Group took a majority and controlling stake in SEAT in 1986. When Volkswagen took full ownership of SEAT in 1990, the Spanish brand became a wholly owned subsidiary.
SEAT was the first non-German marque for the German conglomerate. It also provided greater inroads for VW’s other brands to make inroads in the Spanish market. The SEAT name dates back to 1950, founded by a Spanish state-owned industrial holding company, Sociedad Espanola de Automoviles de Turismo (S.E.A.T.) and it quickly became the country’s largest supplier of cars.
Fiat was a key partner for many years, at times viewed as controlling the business. The relationship with Fiat ended in 1982 after nearly 30 years. The high-performance motorsport division SEAT Sport was renamed CUPRA in 2018.

SEAT Arona: We have two different types of diesel engines, the 1.6 TDI with 70 kW (95 hp), with a range of combined fuel consumption that goes from 4.3 to 4.5 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions that goes from 113 to 118 g/km; and the SEAT Arona 1.6 TDI with 85 kW (115 hp), with a range of combined fuel consumption that goes from 4.3 to 4.4 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions that go from 114 to 117 g/km. SEAT Leon : we have two diesel engines, The 2.0 TDI that offers 85kW (115hp) with a combined fuel consumption of 3.4-3.5l/km and combined C02 emissions of 89-92g/km. And also the 2.0 TDI engine that produces 110kW (150hp) and has a combined consumption of 3.6-3.8l/100km and combined CO2 emissions of 95-98g/km. Are Skoda and VW engines the same?
Having just ordered an Audi A3 1.4 TFSI S-tronic, I was shocked and surprised to discover it has a Skoda engine. Should I be concerned? No. Skoda makes all the VW Group’s EA211 1.2 and 1.4 TSI engines. Most engines and transmissions are shared between the various VW Group divisions.

| 2020 | present | Engines, 0-60 acceleration and top speed – There are two turbocharged petrol engines: a 1.0-litre TSI Evo and a 1.5-litre TSI Evo. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine produces 109bhp and is ideal for drivers who spend most of their time in the city. It’ll hit 62mph in 10.9 seconds with the manual gearbox or 10.8 seconds with the DSG automatic.
Pair it with a DSG transmission and it’s marginally quicker to 62mph. Top speed is 135mph for the more powerful version, but 129mph for the lower-powered edition. The 2.0-litre TDI produces 113bhp and will complete the 0-62mph sprint in 10.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 124mph.
