3. Tea tree oil – Tea tree oil has long been prized for its antifungal properties. A review of research on this essential oil confirmed its ability to kill a range of yeasts and fungi. In the majority of the studies reviewed, tea tree oil was tested on candida albicans, one of the most common yeasts in vaginal infections.
Vaginal suppositories containing tea tree oil have been shown to treat vaginal fungal infections. Some women report relief from adding diluted tea tree oil to a tampon and inserting this into the vagina overnight. However, extreme caution must be used when using tea tree oil, as it can irritate the skin, and the vaginal walls are particularly sensitive.
Tea tree is an essential oil and, as such, needs to be mixed with a carrier oil. People can use 3-5 drops of tea tree oil in 1 ounce of warmed coconut oil to soak a tampon. It is important to change the tampon regularly. Also, people can be allergic to tea tree oil.
- Test the diluted oil on an area the size of a dime on the forearm, and if there is no reaction in 12 to 24 hours, it may be safe to use on the more sensitive genital area.
- Other research indicates that a component of tea tree oil (terpinen-4-ol) enhances the activity of the common antifungal drug fluconazole.
This is in cases of drug-resistant candida albicans,
Can aloe vera cure Candida?
Abstract – Aim Candida albicans can cause two major types of infections: superficial infections (such as oral or vaginal candidiasis) as well as life-threatening systemic infections, and Aloe vera extract is one of the potentially useful therapeutic options. The aim of this study was to determine antifungal properties of Aloe vera ethanol extract on vulvovaginal candidiasis caused by Candida albicans, Methods Aloe vera ethanol extract was prepared by the maceration method with 70% ethanol and dissolved in DMSO into multiple concentrations (6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, and 50%). Candida albicans was cultured in Sabouraud dextrose agar for 72 hours and disc diffusion method was used to evaluate the inhibitory effect of each concentration in comparison with fluconazole. Zones of inhibition at 72 hours were measured and documented, then analysed to get the mean inhibition zone (MIZ). Results After 72 hours, all concentrations of Aloe vera ethanol extract showed inhibition effect against C. albicans with mean inhibition zones of each concentration, 12.450±0.208 mm (6.25%), 13.975±0.457 mm (12.5%), 15.650±0.420 mm (25%), and 17.225±0.512 mm (50%), respectively. Fluconazole revealed comparable antifungal effect with MIZ of 11.025±0.478 mm. Oneway ANOVA test showed a significant effect of Aloe vera ethanol extract on inhibition zone of Candida albicans growth (p<0.005). Conclusion Aloe vera ethanol extract possesses concentration dependent activity against Candida albicans that is comparable with standard antifungal agents. Can I get rid of a yeast infection myself?
Three out of four women will experience at least one yeast infection in their lifetimes. If you’ve had one, you know the signs: severe vaginal itching and irritation accompanied by a thick, white discharge. Sometimes you might feel a burning sensation during urination or sex.
Yeast infections certainly aren’t pleasant, but under most circumstances, they’re easy to treat. The vagina always contains small amounts of yeast. When you’re healthy, that yeast (technically, a fungus known as Candida albicans) exists in harmony with your immune system and your other normal vaginal microorganisms.
But when something disrupts this balance, the yeast can grow quickly, becoming dense enough to cause the symptoms of a full-blown infection. Antibiotics are one of the most common culprits in causing yeast infections, because they destroy vaginal bacteria and thereby disrupt the balance of power among the vaginal microorganisms.
This balance is also affected by hormone levels, so women are more prone to yeast infections if they’re using hormonal contraceptives, during pregnancy, or just prior to menstruation. Yeast infections are also more common in women with compromised immune systems due to illnesses like diabetes, AIDS, or cancer.
In fact, anything that weakens your immune system—stress, lack of sleep, consumption of alcohol, and even refined sugar—can lead to an overgrowth of yeast. OTC Treatment Fortunately, most yeast infections are not serious. Left untreated, yeast infections will usually go away on their own, but the severe itching can be hard to tolerate for some.
Fortunately, the infections respond well to over-the-counter antifungal creams or suppositories, so if you’re sure you have a yeast infection, go ahead and try an OTC yeast infection medication like Monistat or yeast arrest suppositories, which contain boric acid, a mild antiseptic. However, pregnant women should avoid boric acid.
Home Remedies Some people find soaking in an apple cider vinegar bath offers relief, as the vinegar can help restore normal acidity to the vagina. Add two cups of vinegar to a shallow warm—not hot—bath, and soak for 15 minutes. Make sure you dry yourself thoroughly before getting dressed.
- Every body is different, but most women will see some improvement after two or three soaks.
- Applying plain yogurt to the area may help to restore balance and reduce irritation.
- Using only plain yogurt with active cultures, once or twice a day, rub a few tablespoons’ worth around the outside of the vagina to quell irritation, or insert the same amount into the vagina.
You can also dip a tampon in the yogurt, let it soak for a few minutes, and then insert it. It’s safe to try these natural remedies before you opt for the over-the-counter medications, and they are perfectly safe to use in addition to other treatments, even for pregnant women.
Prescription For chronic yeast infections, prescription strength boric acid is sometimes recommended, but it has to be obtained from a pharmacy that compounds drugs. The gelatin capsules are inserted into the vagina at night for two weeks, and serve as both an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent. The first time you experience the symptoms of a yeast infection, you should see your doctor to rule out any other conditions.
Even if you’ve had a yeast infection before, you should consult your physician if the condition isn’t improving despite using medication, or if you experience four or more yeast infections per year. You might need something stronger than what’s available over-the-counter.
Keep the vaginal area clean and dry. After showering, dry the area thoroughly. Always remove wet swimsuits and exercise clothes right away and change into cotton pants without underwear. Limit the amount of time you spend in hot tubs or very hot baths.Let the area breathe. Wear cotton, not nylon, underwear; and avoid tights and pantyhose without a cotton lining, as well as tight pants. Consider not wearing underwear during sleep to allow some airflow.Watch your sugar intake, including alcohol! Sugar is the main food source for yeast.Take probiotics, especially if you are taking antibiotics. Probiotics, found in cultured foods like yogurt and especially in Activia, help restore your normal vaginal bacteria. Finally, always avoid douches, feminine sprays, deodorant tampons, and even bubble baths, which may contain chemicals that can be irritating.

Can you make a yeast infection go away in a day?
A yeast infection is a common fungal infection that can develop when you have too much yeast in your vagina. It most commonly affects the vagina and vulva, but it can also affect the penis and other parts of the body. It’s normal and healthy to have yeast in your vagina.
Bacteria typically help keep this yeast from growing too much. But if something happens to unbalance this bacteria, you might experience an overgrowth of a particular type of yeast called Candida, resulting in a yeast infection. Mild yeast infections often clear up in just a few days, but more severe infections can last up to two weeks.
Symptoms usually include:
vaginal and vulvar itching, soreness, and irritationburning during urination or sexwhite, thick discharge that resembles cottage cheese
Yeast infections occasionally go away without treatment, and home remedies can sometimes help. More often, you’ll need over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription medications to treat symptoms, If the infection doesn’t seem to improve after several days, you may be dealing with a different issue.
Can yeast infection be cured in day?
We include products we think are useful for our readers. If you buy through links on this page, we may earn a small commission. Here’s our process. How long will it last? This depends on two factors: how severe the infection is and how it’s treated. Mild yeast infections may clear up in as few as three days.
Sometimes, they don’t even require treatment. But moderate to severe infections may take one to two weeks to clear. Over-the-counter (OTC) treatments and home remedies are often effective for mild infections, but they aren’t as powerful as prescription options. If you have a severe yeast infection, you may experience symptoms longer if you use a milder treatment.
In rare cases, a yeast infection may clear without treatment. However, you’ll still need to help restore your vagina’s natural balance of yeast and bacteria. Yeast infections that aren’t properly treated are also more likely to recur — as well as increase in severity.

How to use MONISTAT® 1-Day Treatment Combination Pack Ovule (miconazole nitrate) – The Monistat 1-Day Treatment Combination Pack includes a single Ovule insert that goes directly in the vagina with an applicator and a cream to relieve external itching and irritation.
It’s important to keep the Ovule insert dry before use. How to insert the ovule: When ready, open the pouch and put the Ovule in at the top (wider) end of the applicator. (See the illustration in the instructions.) Once the Ovule is secure in the applicator, hold the applicator at the bottom end and insert the top end into your vagina as far as it will comfortably go, like you would a tampon.
Push in the moveable plunger with your finger so the Ovule gets inserted in your vagina. Gently pull out the empty applicator and throw it away (do not flush). The ovule gradually melts to deliver medicine directly to the site of the infection. The MONISTAT® 1 Ovule® stays in place and can be used day or night, making it a great solution for women who don’t want to wait until bedtime to begin treating their yeast infection, or for those who exercise frequently or engage in high levels of activity.
