When six of the teens die from drugs laced with fentanyl, Jamie and Eddie are asked to go undercover to make contact with the dealer. They do, and the dealer is arrested. Danny is in therapy, where it is revealed that Linda was killed months earlier in a helicopter crash where she was transporting a patient.

Danny feels responsible because she was only working that shift because his work schedule had changed. He and the boys have been living at Frank’s because their house burnt down last May. It’s a drama about a fictional family of cops, the Reagans, who are proud of their Catholic faith, which is on display in every episode. Frank Reagan, played by former “Magnum P.I.” star Tom Selleck, is the New York City Police Commissioner. As he runs the department and doesn’t court favors or play politics, he is the embodiment of dignity.

• His dad, Henry, Len Cariou, is the retired commissioner from a different era of policing.
• Frank’s son, Danny, played boisterously by Donnie Wahlberg, is a detective who cuts corners to catch the culprit and is a bit of a hot head.
• Former model Bridget Moynahan, who was supposedly jilted by “Deflate-gate” quarterback Tom Brady when she was carrying his baby, is the only Reagan daughter.

Erin is a N.Y. Assistant D.A., who often finds herself working on the cases of her brothers, including Jamie, the youngest. Will Estes plays a Harvard Law graduate who ditched the law to follow in the family business as a beat cop. The show draws on real life New York City events to make for an unexpected hit.

It’s one of the top-rated shows on CBS and all of television. And the key to its success is Wade, a baptized, practicing Catholic, born in Chappaqua, N.Y., who joined the show mid-way into its first season. Wade became the showrunner in the second season, and he finalizes every script and writes what I think is the most Catholic moment in every episode, the Sunday dinner scene at the Reagan home.

Frank sits at one end of a large dining room table; on the opposite end, we have Henry. Around the table are the three Reagan children along with a daughter-in-law and three grandchildren. They sit in the same seats from week to week – just like the priests did at St.

2. And this is where they tackle the moral issues they face, where Frank moderates and often has the last word.

And she presses the commissioner to influence his friend, the cardinal, to keep open her Catholic school. Another episode is about clerical sex abuse.

On occasion, there is a church scene as the setting for a meeting or Frank goes into a hospital chapel, but the family never attends church together. And yet you always get the feeling that faith informs their lives. Church, however, is not the only reason the show succeeds.

It mines real issues. There are paralleling figures like a Rev. Al Sharpton-type and cops on the take. For the most part, though, the show is full of good public servants involved in personal stories much better than soap operas. The premiere episode this season, “Worst Case Scenario,” had Frank on high alert when a threat to New York City seemed imminent following a terrorist attack in the Middle East.

But I wonder if they are going to mount an episode about how their cops would protect the Pope when he comes to their New York, as they did in real life last month in over-the-top fashion. Wade told me, “Well, you’ll just have to watch”, as I do, every Friday night.

Recap – Officer Kevin Olivet shoots and kills an unarmed shoplifter in the commission of a crime. Turns out the shoplifter was high on cocaine and amphetamines at the time of the shooting. The Mayor later apologizes to Frank and offers to keep him on because his polling numbers are so high. • Danny and Baez investigate and get a warrant for Webber’s home because he’s also a suspect in his disappearance of his girlfriend.
• They find the girlfriend’s body in a barrel in his basement and Webber is arrested.
• Jamie and Eddie respond to a call at a club where multiple people have passed out on the dance floor.

When six of the teens die from drugs laced with fentanyl, Jamie and Eddie are asked to go undercover to make contact with the dealer. They do, and the dealer is arrested. Danny is in therapy, where it is revealed that Linda was killed months earlier in a helicopter crash where she was transporting a patient.

Danny feels responsible because she was only working that shift because his work schedule had changed. He and the boys have been living at Frank’s because their house burnt down last May. Danny thinks Linda would have wanted him to quit the NYPD but his therapist and family convince him otherwise. Linda knew how much he loved the job.

Frank tells him that when his wife died, that it was his kids that got him through. The family gets together and rents a house for Danny and the boys that is near their school to help Danny begin to move on. They all have dinner together in the house and Danny says Grace.
